Is being a certified coach necessary?  What does it say about my skill as coach?  After thinking about this for about a month, I decided to go ahead and go through the process.  This certification doesn't really address my skill as a coach.  Only my clients can comment on my skills.  Even after thousands of hours of coaching, I know that my skill is bringing out the best in others, coaching is not about me.

I think what the certification says is that I understand and can apply the core competencies of coaching as defined by the International Coach Federation.  That is okay for now.

An executive coach can partner with a new or establish leader to learn new skills/behaviors, obtain needed feedback, and improve inter and intra personal skills.  Executive coaching is an excellent resource for emerging and established leaders to learn and apply new skills on the job in real time.  

Just like technology continues to evolve and change, the skill of leadership needs to continue to evolve and change.  Leading and engaging employees, customers, and clients requires more than an MBA.  It requires leaders with strong "people skills".
